The medical device manufacturer Precision Concepts Medical Technologies will invest $5 million in the construction and operation of a new plant in Costa Rica.
According to the Costa Rican Coalition of Development Initiatives (Cinde), the health sector company's investment will focus on the construction of a building and the implementation of state-of-the-art technology.
The multinational Hospira will be gradually closing manufacturing operations for infusion equipment in the Dominican Republic in order to transfer to facilities operating in Costa Rica.
The company told Nacion.com that"... after careful analysis of product volume and global manufacturing capabilities, we made the difficult decision to discontinue manufacturing operations in the Dominican Republic and transfer most of the installed plant operations to Costa Rica".
$18 million will be allocated to equip the seven-story tower, which will be built starting from April at the Calderon Guardia hospital, with 209 beds, 35 incubators and radiology, neonatology, gynecology, and an isolation unit.
The estimated cost of the project is $83 million, its construction will begin in mid-April and it will be completed within three years, according to the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS).

The export value of manufactured medical and precision equipment exceeded $2.5 billion, almost matching exports reported by the agricultural sector, which totaled $2.69 billion last year.
