Congress has approved a loan from the French government to finance the construction of the water treatment plant in Las Pavas.
From a statement issued by the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador:
With the aim of finalising the funding for the "Project for the Renovation of a Drinking Water Treatment Plant in Pavas and Network adduction", representatives of the Legislative Assembly approved a financial protocol between the governments of France and El Salvador, for an amount of € 53 million (US $59 million).
The lack of clean water and sanitation creates pollution problems and limits development of coastal areas.
The absence of adequate sanitation infrastructure increases investment costs for coastal development in up to 10%, forcing to arrange for the supply of drinking water and to build water treatment plants.
Alberto Ascencio, president of the Salvadoran Hotel Association, points to Laprensagrafica.com: "Here in the country we speak about tourism development but we really do not have the basic needs in those destinations we promote at a regional or international level."
Changes to the tender process of program “Housing for All” ("Casas para Todos") eased up on requirements for construction companies.
Current legislation requires the contractor to have developed at least three similar projects to the one which is being applied for. With the new changes construction companies can apply without having been specifically devoted to urban development projects.
FONAVIPO, the National Social Housing Fund, awarded 6 of 10 projects to build homes in urban development “Nuevo Belén”.
Marco Fortín, president of the institution, explained that works are poised to start on May and should be ready in two months. “This project could generate some 4.500 jobs, between direct and indirect ones”, added Fortín.
These houses are part of the project “Casa para Todos” (Housing for everyone), and will cost around $12.000 each.
The Housing Fund (FONAVIPO) will invest $2.3 million in building 192 apartments for those affected by tropical storm Ida.
The building complex will be located in Apopa. Its mayoralty will conduct the topographic studies and Fonavipo will execute the construction.
Marco Fortín, president of Fonavipo, told newspaper La Prensa Grafica that a similar project, “Belén” urbanization in San Miguel, will be awarded the next Friday, after two months of delays.
For 2010, the National Housing Fund plans to build 4.752 housing units.
The first 499 homes will be built in Nuevo Belén, with the Fund inviting bids for constructing them in the first fortnight of February.
Marco Martín, president of the Fund (known as FONAVIPO in Spanish) explained that "a total 45.000 jobs will be generated in the year by this investment, an important Government contribution to the construction industry", reported Laprensagrafica.com.
The National Housing Fund began the bidding process, earmarking $3 million for it.
12 municipalities will be benefited with the project, which is part of the program "Housing for Everyone" (Casa para Todos).
Elsalvador.com reports: "Each house will be built with cinder block walls, fiber cement board roof and lattice windows ... Bids must include a maintenance guarantee, issued by a bank or insurer, entitled to Fonavipo and valid for 120 days"..
The Housing Fund ('Fondo de Vivienda'), invited bids for the construction of 503 social housing units in project 'Nuevo Belén'.
Marco Fortín, president of FONAVIPO, the National Social Housing Fund, explained they will receive bids through the month of October, with the winner being announced 15 days later.
Fortín added: "construction of the first 150 units should start in February 2010, and we expect to deliver all the houses by May of the same year".
By the end of September and the start of October, there will be three bidding processes for the construction of 2.200 units of social housing.
Bidding for the first 500 unit housing project, to be located in San Miguel, will be done in the second half of September. In October, the process will start for the other two projects, one for 1.500 residences in San Martín, and the other for 300 homes in "Polígono Don Bosco".
