With funds from the IDB managed in a trust by Banco Nacional, the Ministry of Education will build new schools.
Banco Nacional (BN) will be responsible for managing a trust worth $167.5 million to be used for the construction of 79 schools and 24 recreational areas. The loan was granted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The only thing now pending is approval from the Attorney General of the Republic for the start of construction, which it is hoped will start in the middle of the year.
The IDB is discussing providing $300 million in financing, of the total cost of $700 million required for the project.
The pipeline which Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) is considering building at a cost of $700 million, between Guatemala and Mexico, could be funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) which is analysing provision of a loan of $300 million, as confirmed by Guatemalan President Otto Pérez.
Banco Nacional de Costa Rica has earmarked part of the $1 billion it raised in foreign markets for energy and infrastructure projects.
In the next few months Costa Rica's Banco Nacional (BNCR) will provide $300 million for hydropower and wind projects. Another $400 million will be used to refinance short term credit lines with foreign banks and the last $300 million will stay in an account abroad awaiting other interesting projects, explained the manager of the company, Fernando Naranjo.
The CII is to finance the construction of two hydroelectric plants with a combined installed capacity of 30.65 MW.

Corporación Interamericana de Inversiones (CII) has approved a loan of up to $9 million for Generadora San Mateo S.A. (GSM) and up to $6 million for Generadora San Andrés S.A.
In Costa Rica the Brazilian company OAS has six months to find someone to pay more than $500 million for a project that has been opposed by 90% of the population.
According to Edwin Rodriguez, technical secretary of the National Concessions Council (CNC), the Brazilian company OAS is negotiating with international banks for the resources to fund the project.
$100 million of loans have been granted, paving the way for larger passenger capacity at Juan Santamaria Airport.

Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica has successfully completed a three-year restructuring process and is preparing to more than double its passenger capacity after partnering with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC).
The organization will contribute $98 million for the construction of the Hydroelectric Project ‘Vegona’.
The IFC, a member of the World Bank and Oesterreichische Entwicklungsbank AG (OeEB) will provide $98 million to fund the largest hydropower project in Honduras, to be built by Compañía Hondureña de Energía Renovable S.A. (COHERSA).
The project will generate 181 gigawatt hours of electricity per year, and will be financed with a principal loan granted by the IFC, and another syndicated one to be provided by the Development Bank of Austria (OeBD).
