The company Urbánica Desarrollos Inmobiliarios plans to develop an residential project, known as Portal Canarias in a 15.7 hectare area in El Espino.
The project, which includes four residential condominiums, will generate about five thousand jobs both direct and indirect, said Alvaro Barraza, Commercial Manager of the project.

The Housing Ministry plans to invest in 15 municipalities, from January 2012 to 2014.

According to the specifications the tender is for a construction project consisting of 229 homes in Los Almendros, polygons 6 and 7, located in the municipality of San Martin, Department of San Salvador.
FONAVIPO will take over private building projects that have had to be stopped due to lack of funding.
More than 2 000 public houses will be developed by the National Fund for Popular Housing in different areas of the country.
They will be built on lots where private developers had begun construction of buildings, and therefore already have building permits and other documents required by regulation.
The National Popular Housing Fund gave the order to begin construction of the Santa Lucia and Procavi developments in the city of Santa Ana.
The Santa Lucia project consists of 1.068 apartments, divided into 57 buildings on three levels. To date the fund has awarded the construction of the first 16 buildings -192 apartments - to two companies. For the rest of the development, FONAVIPO will receive bids from firms on 6 May.
The market registers over $30 million in social housing purchases (up to $75.000).
Mario Rivera, president of Casalco, the Salvadoran Construction Chamber, explained that in the first months of 2011 they've experienced a paused recovery, the first since 2008.
However, he added, the situation is still fragile, and he acknowledged they must improve the lack of housing options for high income families.
