The new technical standard to establish quality specifications for imported hydraulic cements and those produced in the country will be put to consultation up until July 27.
Costa Rican industrialists are oppossed to batch certification proposed by the government in the regulation of electric cables and are demanding a reduction of the duplication of requirements in public proceedings.

The Chamber of Industry has asked for support from the Minister at the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Trade (MEIC), Welmer Ramos, for the industrial sector. Regulatory reform and appropriate technical regulations are some of the issues on which the chamber is repeatedly pressing in order to defend the interests of the sector.
Technical regulations on the "General Principles of Good Food Manufacturing Practices" have been updated.
In December 2013, the Institute of Technical Standards of Costa Rica (Inteco) updated and approved a tool which establishes the controls and requirements for all processes in the food manufacturing chain.

It is estimated that there are more than 50 companies waiting for the definition of the steps necessary to legitimately use the trade mark 'Essential Costa Rica'.
With the publication of the regulation in the Official Gazette," the Institute of Technical Standards of Costa Rica (Inteco) will be able to apply the exam for evaluators to visit companies interested in becoming certified with the brand," noted an article in Elfinancierocr.com.
The Chamber of Coffee Roasters is planning to launch in six months, a quality seal that will inform consumers about the product’s features.
The seal which carries validation by the Costa Rican Standards Institute (INTECO), will carry information about whether ‘... it is pure coffee (without other ingredients) either with sugar or traditional (raw material quality) and is flavoured, not instant.’
