The International Airport at San Jose will have added capacity to handle 260,000 passengers a year, with two new boarding gates and another 1,000 square meters in commercial spaces.
As explained Vilma Lopez, deputy director of Civil Aviation, Aeris (manager of the terminal), will be the company in charge of the enlargement process in the east of the terminal, opposite Cooperativa Autogestionaria de Servicios Aeroindustriales (Coopesa R. L).
The low-cost airline JetBlue has announced that from June 2013 it will operate daily flights between Hollywood International Airport in Fort Lauderdale and Juan Santamaria in Costa Rica.
At a press conference in Costa Rica, Jeff Goodell, Vice President for Government Affairs at JetBlue, said: "As the community of Costa Rica has found out JetBlue, offering legroom, movies on the back of every seat, free snacks and drinks, and a high level of service, we have been able to grow and continue our strong track record in the country. Due to this fact, we are proud to add the third route of JetBlue in Costa Rica. "
From Thursday July 12 Aeromexico will fly a nonstop route linking the International Airport Juan Santamaria with Cancun.
An article in Nacion.com reports that "The Costa Rican Institute of Tourism has confirmed that the inaugural flight will take place at 10:50 with the presence of Tourism Minister, Allan Flores."
This new Aeromexico flight is the first direct air link between Costa Rica and the resort of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo.
Until 28th November the Public Transport Council (CTP In Spanish) will be receiving bids for taxi services at the Juan Santamaria International Airport .
According to the specifications given in concession, they require 60 registered number plates for light vehicles, 30 for micro-buses and 10 for vehicles adapted to carry disabled people.
Faced with the refusal of the company that currently provides the service, Taxis Unidos, to use electronic meters to charge for the routes, the Public Transport Council has put out to tender the acquisition of the registered number plates.

The venture will commence effective 1 November 2009. Starting today, Houston Airport takes charge of the operation and administration of the Juan Santamaría International Airport.
The consortium, lead by Houston Airport, the world's sixth largest airport operator, obtained the endorsement of the Costa Rican authorities, becoming, starting today, the airport administrator and responsible for the expansion project currently on the works.
