The National Popular Housing Fund gave the order to begin construction of the Santa Lucia and Procavi developments in the city of Santa Ana.
The Santa Lucia project consists of 1.068 apartments, divided into 57 buildings on three levels. To date the fund has awarded the construction of the first 16 buildings -192 apartments - to two companies. For the rest of the development, FONAVIPO will receive bids from firms on 6 May.
Changes to the tender process of program “Housing for All” ("Casas para Todos") eased up on requirements for construction companies.
Current legislation requires the contractor to have developed at least three similar projects to the one which is being applied for. With the new changes construction companies can apply without having been specifically devoted to urban development projects.
The National Housing Fund will start in the coming days the bidding process for 3 condominium projects.
From Friday 26th to Monday 29th the bidding will begin on a 1,068 residential apartment project in Santa Lucia and one of 416 units in Procavi. The first is valued at $ 16 million and the second at $ 7 million.
Both are part of "Home for All", which is funded with $ 50 million provided by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.
A bill will be introduced this week to simplify and speed up government acquisitions, and to include more small and medium companies in the process.
These changes are being proposed by the Salvadoran Construction Chamber (Casalco).
According to Elsalvador.com, “the Chamber wants to adjust the money volumes required for contracts shorter than 12 months, and to make it easier to obtain warranties for each acquisition”.
FONAVIPO, the National Social Housing Fund, awarded 6 of 10 projects to build homes in urban development “Nuevo Belén”.
Marco Fortín, president of the institution, explained that works are poised to start on May and should be ready in two months. “This project could generate some 4.500 jobs, between direct and indirect ones”, added Fortín.
These houses are part of the project “Casa para Todos” (Housing for everyone), and will cost around $12.000 each.
28 companies submitted bids for building the first phase of the “Nuevo Belén” project.
This initiative is part of a wider project called “Casa para Todos” (Housing for All), launched last year.
Companies are bidding for constructing the first phase, which includes 499 residences in 8 modules containing 38 to 40 units each. The winning company will be announced next week.
The National Housing Fund began the bidding process, earmarking $3 million for it.
12 municipalities will be benefited with the project, which is part of the program "Housing for Everyone" (Casa para Todos).
Elsalvador.com reports: "Each house will be built with cinder block walls, fiber cement board roof and lattice windows ... Bids must include a maintenance guarantee, issued by a bank or insurer, entitled to Fonavipo and valid for 120 days"..
The Housing Fund ('Fondo de Vivienda'), invited bids for the construction of 503 social housing units in project 'Nuevo Belén'.
Marco Fortín, president of FONAVIPO, the National Social Housing Fund, explained they will receive bids through the month of October, with the winner being announced 15 days later.
Fortín added: "construction of the first 150 units should start in February 2010, and we expect to deliver all the houses by May of the same year".
By the end of September and the start of October, there will be three bidding processes for the construction of 2.200 units of social housing.
Bidding for the first 500 unit housing project, to be located in San Miguel, will be done in the second half of September. In October, the process will start for the other two projects, one for 1.500 residences in San Martín, and the other for 300 homes in "Polígono Don Bosco".
In September, the Housing Ministry of El Salvador will invite bids for the construction of 2.200 homes.
This process is a part of the "Casa para Todos" (Housing for Everyone) project, which aims to build 9.561 homes in 18 months.
Edín de Jesús Martínez, head of the ministry, told Laprensagrafica.com that "works is ahead of schedule, and home builders are already inquiring on the requirements they must fulfill to participate in the competition".
As part of the anti-crisis plan, the government will take bids for construction of the first 2,000 homes.
The anti-crisis plan calls for the construction of 25,000 homes by means of the National Fund for Popular Homes (FONAVIPO, acronym in Spanish).
Mario Rivera, president of the Salvadorian Chamber of Construction, informed Laprensagrafica.com: “We are hoping that president (Mauricio) Funes approves the proposal for the construction of 13,000 homes funded by FONAVIPO, currently in the ant-crisis plan. He mentioned that there will be 2,000 homes built first. Also, we are hoping to move forward with the construction of 5,000 homes financed through private banks.”
