The low-cost airline Wingo announced that as of April 28 it will begin operating a direct flight twice a week between the capitals of Panama and Peru.
The new route, which will have tickets available on Tuesdays and Saturdays, will be operated by 737-800 NG aircraft with capacity for 186 passengers, company officials said.
Last year, hotels in Panama City reported an average daily occupancy of 4,571 rooms, 1% less than in 2018.
Reports from the General Comptroller of the Republic indicate that in December the daily average of occupied rooms did not register significant changes with respect to the same month last year, going from 4,307 to 4,281.
On January 24, the bilateral agreement known as "Open Skies" came into force, which considers flights between both countries as domestic.

According to a statement from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Aeris, airport operator of the Juan Santamaria terminal, has confirmed that the rates will have a significant increase next year, because recent investments will be depreciated quickly to coincide with the expiration of the management contract in 2026.
