Congress has pending approval of 10 loans totaling $ 616 million for social projects.
Of the total 10, four are pending opinion, three have passed the first debate and three more are awaiting the second debate.
Sigloxxi.com adds, "among those pending opinion is one for $ 46.8 million for a program to combat urban poverty by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The funds are part of a total of $ 280 million for social programs.
To support the efforts of Honduras in implementing the Millennium Development Goals, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) disbursed a $ 100 million loan to the country.
The resources of this loan will contribute positively to compliance with six of the eight Millennium Development Goals, and through the different components of the program seeks to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, support education, reduce mortality child mortality, improve maternal health, ensuring environmental sustainability and promoting gender equality.
The Government's approval to negotiate two IDB loans is for social and housing programs.
A $ 35 million loan will be allocated for the implementation of the Community Support of Urban Solidarity and a $ 70 million loan to finance the Comprehensive Improvement for Housing and Urban Squatter Settlements Phase II.
"The credits, which are part of the country´s strategy from the Inter American Development Bank (IDB) for El Salvador, and which total reached $ 450 million, were praised by all political factions, who identified the need to invest in social improvements," Laprensagrafica.com reports.
The Treasury Ministry of El Salvador requested the Legislative Assembly to approve six loans for $531 million with international organizations.
From the total, $200 million are with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), $161.7 million with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and $170 million with the World Bank (WB).
“They would be spent in projects such as the Maternity Hospital ($40 million), risk mitigation plans ($31 million) and concluding Diego de Holguín highway ($18.3). WB had offered $500 million, but the Treasury opted to negotiate only $200 million”, reported Elsalvador.com.
Representatives from the World Bank are evaluating the projects for which the government is seeking loans.
Alexander Segovia, technical secretary of the President, reported that the Bank could approve the loans in November, adding they are intended for social programs.

A "preliminary agreement" was struck, under which $35 million would be disbursed in October if a series of measures are enacted.
Some of the measures requested by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) include reforming the 2009 Budget and concluding a proposal for the 2010 Budget.
"Disbursement of the money, warned IMF, will depend on the degree of progress in implementing the agreed measures, which would be evaluated by the Directorate of the Fund by the end of October", reported Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa.
