In recent weeks the international prices of petroleum products recorded the following variations: -2,09% in special gasoline, -1,46% for regular gasoline and -3,53% in diesel.

The fall in oil prices has reversed the cost equation which previously favored investment in renewable energy.

The effect of the price of a barrel of oil falling below $50 is now being felt in the decisions which must be taken by energy buyers and regulatory officials in the electricity markets. The thing is that -suddenly - electricity produced using hydrocarbons may cost less than energy from solar power, and even hydroelectricity.

The contract awarded to Greenfields Petroleum to carry out exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in the El Cedro, between Alta Verapaz and Petén is now in effect.
The Ministry of Energy and Mines approved the contract with Greenfield Petroleum, effective as of January 2, 2015, to carry out exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in the area El Cedro 6-2012.
A year after six areas for oil exploration were awarded, five of them still dont have contracts signed between the contractors and the government.

The Ministry of Finance announced on July 7, new variations on the reference prices for fuel, which will be in effect from 8 to 21 July 2014.
During the month of July 2014, the price of WTI (West Texas Intermediate) in the Gulf Coast of the United States had an average value of $95.72 per barrel, a decrease of -2.94% compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, the international prices of petroleum products showed the following changes in the past few weeks: +2.77% in the price of premium gasoline, +1.43% in the price of regular gasoline and +1.22% in the price of diesel.
The oil company Perenco has completed construction of a plant capable of generating 12 MW using oil-based fuel and 2 MW using natural gas.
Using the power plant for the business operation, the company´s projection is to "... save nearly $6 million in the cost of oil production per year."
Prensalibre.com reports that "...this plant was constructed with high-tech equipment and consists of a 12 MW generator powered by fuel oil and combustible oil, waste from oil distillation, and it produces 2 MW from natural gas, a resource produced from the oil. "

The Ministry of Economy has announced new changes in the reference prices for fuel, which will be in force from April 15 to 28 2014.
The new changes in reference prices for fuels nationwide, are as follows: a decrease for special gasoline of $0.07 in the central and western areas, and a decrease of $0.08 in the east; increase of $0.01 for regular gasoline in the three areas of the country; and diesel will decrease by $0.03 in all areas of the country.
