Honduras: Tender for 180 MW of Power

The National Electricity Company is preparing the specifications to tender 60 MW in the regional market and 120 MW in the local market in early 2017.
Authorities at the National Electricity Company (ENEE) plan to contract out 180 MW of firm power, for which reason they are ruling out offers that come from power plants based on solar and wind power.

Commercial authorization was received in July by the Energy generators Caribe, S.A., whose installed capacity is 120 MW, Unidad Turbo Generador Condensing 4 (TGC-4) de Pantaleón S.A., with 50.55 MW.

Of the 34,629 GWh generated in 2015 by the countries included in SICA, 68% came from hydropower, 11% from cogeneration in sugar mills, 11% was geothermal, 9% wind and 0.1% based on biogas.

In the first five months of the year wind generated electricity exceeded 600 million Kwh, almost three times more than in the same period in 2015.
The national supply of electricity generated by wind power grew by 259% in the period January-May 2016 compared to the same period in 2015, according to figures from the Office of the Comptroller General of Colombia.

In May, the national installed capacity amounted to 3,012 MW, made up of 26% hydro power using reservoir technology, 31% run of the river hydro, 34% thermal, 7% wind, and the rest is photovoltaic.

El Salvador: 13% Tax on Electricity Consumption

Businessmen have described as a "disguised tax" the decree by the Sanchez Ceren administration which adds a fee for social investment on to the energy rate .
The decree states that the new charge of 13% within the tariff will begin on July 15 and notes that "... the charge for social investment will be part of the fees in the system, which are transferred to the entire electricity demand in the different markets managed by the Transactions Unit and will be calculated quarterly as a dollar value per megawatt hour, equal to 13% of the value of the average price of Transferable Energy rates corresponding to the previous quarter ".

In March 2016 the electricity generation matrix was made up of 34% plant-based biomass, 22% coal, 24% hydroelectric, 14% bunker, 2.8% geothermal, 1.2% wind and the rest was biogas and diesel.
The report "Electricity Subsector Statistics up to May 2016" prepared by the Directorate General for Energy, at the Ministry of Energy and Mines, summarizes the main data for the sector up to May 2016.

In May, installed capacity increased by 85 MW, with the commercial release of four new power plants.

In May commercial release of the following generators was approved:
- San Isidro Generation Plant with an installed capacity of 62.40 MW
- Hydroelectric station Las Fuentes II with 14.17 MW
- Hydroelectric station El Cafetal with 7.77 MW
- Hydroelectric station Raaxha with 1.5 MW Unit I,
Also enabled was the GDR Small Hydroelectric station El Conacaste, with an installed capacity of 3MW.
The following is a list of the Large Users which were commercially enabled this month: Polycolor Internacional, S. A. Avícola Villalobos, S.A. (Granja Guatalón y Granja La Felicidad) Muebles Continental, S. A. Comercializadora y Productora de Bebidas Los Volcanes, S. A. Pollo Campero S. A. (La Felicidad, Coatepeque).
