At the end of 2019, economic activity in Guatemala grew 3%, behavior that was explained in part by the performance of the commercial and construction sectors.

During December 2019 the economic activity measured by the IMAE estimate, registered a 3.1% growth rate with respect to December 2018 (2.2%).
This behavior was explained by the positive result mainly experienced by the economic activities of Commerce and vehicle repair; Construction; Real estate activities; Financial and insurance activities; and Agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing, which had a greater influence on the growth rate of the total IMAE.
Trade and vehicle repair were the activities that, during November 2019, explained the 3.4% year-on-year variation in the IMAE.
In November last year, the Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMAE) slowed down for the second consecutive month, from 4.3% to 3.7% between September and October, and in the eleventh month it fell to 3.4%, reported the Bank of Guatemala.
In September, the IMAE in Guatemala registered a 4.2% inter-annual variation, influenced by wholesale and retail trade activities, and Agriculture, livestock, hunting, forestry and fishing.
The economic activity measured by the estimation of the IMAE, in September 2019, showed a 4.2% growth rate, variation that is greater in comparison to the 3.6% registered in the ninth month of 2018, explains the report of the Banco de Guatemala.
Private services, manufacturing industries and wholesale and retail trade explained part of the 3% year-on-year increase reported in gross GDP in the period from April to June 2019.
Financial intermediation, insurance and auxiliary activities, and Construction were other economic activities contributing to the growth of the Gross Domestic Product for the quarter in question.
In August, the IMAE in Guatemala registered a 3.7% year-on-year variation, influenced by wholesale and retail trade activities, and private services.
The economic activity measured by the estimation of the IMAE, in August 2019, showed a 3.7% growth rate, variation that is slightly lower compared to the 3.8% registered in the eighth month of 2018, explains the report of the Banco de Guatemala.
In Guatemala, the Economic Activity Index registered year-on-year growth of 3.1% in June, explained in part by the variations of Private Services and Manufacturing Industries.
According to the report of the Banco de Guatemala the economic activity measured by the estimation of the IMAE, reported a deceleration in June 2019, since it registered a 3.1% growth rate, increase that is lower to the variation of 3.5% reported in May of this year.
In Guatemala the economic activity reported the third month of the year a 2.7% year-on-year growth rate, mainly because of the behavior of the Transportation and Manufacturing Industries sector.
The 2.7% increase in economic activity reported by the Banco de Guatemala in the third month of the year, represents an acceleration since in February 2019 the variation was only 1.9%.
After recording in the first month of 2019 a 3.2% year-on-year increase in economic activity, in February of this year the IMAE closed with a 1.9% increase.

In January, the economic activity in Guatemala reported a 3.4% increase regarding the same month in 2018, mainly because of the performance of Transport and Private Services.
The Bank of Guatemala Report states that "... The economic activity measured by the estimation of the IMAE in January 2019, showed a 3.4% growth rate (1.2% in January 2018).
After recording at the end of 2017, a 2.6% year-on-year increase in economic activity, in December last year the IMAE closed a 3.3% increase.
The most recent figures estimated by the Bank of Guatemala (Banguat) specify that between November and December last year, economic activity registered a 5.7% increase.
During October, economic activity in Guatemala reported a 3.3% increase over the same month in 2017, mainly because of the performance of private services and wholesale and retail trade.

As a result, the described behavior was influenced by the growth shown by the following economic activities: Transportation, storage and communications; Wholesale and retail trade; Private services; Agriculture, livestock, hunting, silviculture and fishing; and Manufacturing industries.
Influenced in part by the performance of the transportation and services sectors, economic activity in Guatemala reported a year-on-year growth of 3.4% in July.
The behavior in the seventh month of the year was influenced by growth shown by the following economic activities: Transportation, storage and communications, Wholesale and retail trade, Private services and the Manufacturing industries.
Trade and Financial Intermediation are the sectors that accounted for most of the increase recorded in the economic activity index during the fifth month of the year.
