In the context of the health crisis and home quarantine, the average daily consumption in the country is about 18 GWh, which is 25% less than that reported prior to the outbreak of the virus.
Data from the Transaction Unit (TU) indicate that between the levels reported in February and the demand registered from March 23 to April 3, consumption has fallen from 19.6 GWh to 15 GWh on average.
In El Salvador, a charging station for electric vehicles will be put into operation in Plaza Malta, located on the road to the Port of La Libertad.
This will be the first electrolinera (electric station) in the country that will serve the general public, because since 2018 there is another station of this type, but is within the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas (UCA).
Of the 28 MW of renewable energy tendered in El Salvador, only 8.48 MW were awarded, because most of the participants exceeded the maximum price established by Siget.
On March 11, DELSUR held the opening ceremony of the tender process for the generation of 28 MW of photovoltaic energy and with biogas, of which 8.48 MW were awarded in projects representing a $10 million investment.
In El Salvador, 18 proposals were submitted for the tender of 28 MW of non-conventional renewable energy, of which 12 correspond to solar projects and 6 to biogas-based generation projects.
With no details of the participating companies, it was reported that the 18 technical and economic proposals were presented on December 19 in the morning to the DELSUR authorities.
In El Salvador, at least 16 companies have registered as bidders in the tender for 28 MW of non-conventional renewable energy, for distributed solar generation and generation using biogas.
Without giving more details about the interested companies, it was reported that more than 16 investors have registered as bidders for technical and financial projects for alternative energy generation.
30 offers were presented for photovoltaic projects with capacity for 60 MW and two for wind power projects with capacity of 40 MW.
An article on Nacion.com reports that "... Of the 32 projects submitted by investors, two are wind projects, the remaining 30 are photovoltaic; however, Roberto González, DELSUR's manager, said that if the wind projects fail to meet the power target they have been assigned (40 MW) they will be supplemented with photovoltaic generation. "
In response to inquiries and requests from generators registered as interested, Delsur has modified the tender, postponing the date for receipt of bids until May 15, 2014.
Sources consulted by CentralAmericaData.com.via telephone with Delsur noted that the information regarding the reasons for the modifications made to the bidding rules were only communicated to those registered as participating companies.
The bidding rules have been published for the supply of 100 MW of power and associated energy generated from renewable resources with a 20-year contract term.
From information published by Delsur:
Call for participation in International Public Tender No. DELSUR-CLP-RNV-001-2013 for the supply of 100 MW of power to be installed using wind and photovoltaic technology and associated energy for a period of 20 years.
The consortium Quantum-GLU would be the winner of a long-term contract to supply 335 MW generated from a power plant that would be built by the company.
A statement from the National Energy Board reads:
The electricity distribution company DELSUR has made public the financial bids offered by two companies who submitted documents for the tender for 355 megawatts (MW) of power and associated energy, namely: Asocio Quantum-GLU and AES Fonseca Energía, who on October 1 submitted the information required to participate in the tender for the supply of power for 20 years.
A series of tenders are being prepared to replace expiring energy contracts which are equivalent to an output of 380 megawatts.
This was confirmed by Luis Mendez, chief of the General Superintendency of Electricity and Telecommunications (SIGET), who added that "right now they are in process, but we are going to beat the deadlines ...".
"We will probably put out additional tenders in the medium term and then, rest assured that we are seriously backing a joint investment," Mendez said.
AES Fonseca Energía LTO de CV and Asocio Quantum-GLU submitted their technical and financial bids in the tender organized by Del Sur.
"The technical bids will immediately be reviewed by the evaluation committee of the distributors, advised by a group of prestigious local consultants who will look at the legal issues, especially technical and financial ones," said the general manager of the Del Sur, Roberto Gonzalez.
There will be a batch of 40 MW generated by wind power and the remaining 60 MW through solar generation.
From a press release from the Superintendency of Electricity and Telecommunications (SIGET):
The electricity distribution companies through DELSUR, the Superintendency of Electricity and Telecommunications (SIGET) and the National Energy Council (CNE) announced the launch of a new bidding process aimed at electricity generation projects of 100 MW, based on non-conventional renewable resources and exclusive participation in the wholesale market.
Cenérgica is planning to build in El Salvador a coal power generation plant, which would produce about 150 megawatts.
However, according to Ricardo Hernandez, CEO of Cenérgica, execution of the project planned by the company IC Power, part of Israel Corporation Limited (IC) will depend on the suitability of the tender conditions for the contract for the long-term supply of 350 MW .
The security provided to generators in signing long-term contracts means lower electricity rates to end users.
An article in Elmundo.com.sv states that "The entry into force in January, of two new long-term contracts to provide power for two years to distributors, will prevent a further increase in the new energy prices which will be valid from April 15, according to the company DELSUR. "
The technical and regulatory requirements, and exclusive financing options of the tender for long-term contracts for the supply of 350 MW, have been explained to investors in El Salvador.
From a press release published by the Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments of El Salvador (PROESA):
