After the signing of a contract between the government of Nicaragua and a norwegian company to explore for hydrocarbons, Costa Rica has noted that the award was made on disputed maritime areas in the International Court of Justice.
An article in Nacion.com reports that "... Foreign Minister Manuel Gonzalez said he prepared the letter to the company that received the rights to explore and exploit hydrocarbons in the Pacific coast, in an area that lacks clear boundaries between the Costa Rican and Nicaraguan territory."
Construction companies have pointed out that National Roads Council does not have the capacity for the necessary management and are asking the government to intervene.
From a statement by the Costa Rican Chamber of Construction Industry (CCC):
• Because CONAVI does not have the capacity for management , the Government of the Republic is not completing its road infrastructure programs, critical harvest and is generating mistrust in the system itself.
Monteverde is a renowned destination for eco-tourism and adventure holidays which is home to more than 200 companies specialising in lodging, tours, entertainment, food and souvenir sales.
A statement from the National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR) reads:
In light of the poor condition of the road to Monteverde
• Hotels in the area are already seeing a significant drop in occupancy rates.
The Central Bank of Costa Rica is putting to public consultation the Regulation for Defence and Consumer Protection Insurance.
The regulation will be under consultation until 27 December.
Nacion.com reports that "According to this regulation, all natural or legal persons who are properly identified can make complaints or appeals with insurance firms provided these requests relate to their interests or legally recognized rights."
