The Superintendency of Competition this morning received a complaint from the legal representative of Agroindustrias Gumarsal requesting the initiation of disciplinary proceedings for anticompetitive practices in the flour sector.
The Salvadoran government has filed a lawsuit against Ingenio La Magdalena for the crime of environmental pollution caused by a spill of molasses in the river with the same name.
From a statement issued by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources:
$4.9 million is the economic cost of the spill of molasses in the river La Magdalena. This cost was calculated based on four areas: compensation to affected communities in terms of their livelihoods (fishing and tourism); expenses and costs for ecosystem restoration; administrative costs incurred by the central and municipal government; and measures for the conversion of La Magdalena mill.
Entrepreneurs in the sector say that several companies have stopped taking part in tenders to provide advertising services to the Ministry of Tourism, and denounced a lack of transparency.
"Biased and manipulated without transparency" are how private agencies describe the tenders run by the Ministry of Tourism to hire advertising services, according to complaints received by the guild.
The regional union is bringing charges to the Central American Court of Justice over what it considers to be undue customs fees in El Salvador.
The American Federation of Freight (Fecatrans) announced that it is preparing a lawsuit against El Salvador at the Central American Court of Justice (CCJ). The union is complaining about the fees that carriers pay at customs offices in that country, which it considers improper.
The superintendency of competition has began the investigation into alleged anti-competitive practices by Alba Petroleos.
"After analyzing the formal request by the National Association of Private Enterprise (ANEP) (February 5), the Superintendence of Competition has launched an official investigation (February 13, 2013), with the intention of determining whether Alba Petroleum had or had not violated the Competition Act through merging its businesses," noted an article in Elsalvador.com.
