The second quarter of 2021 shows an increase in fertilizer imports in the Central American region in monetary values, representing $521 million in purchases in this market, mainly from China.

For the second quarter of 2021, Guatemala maintained as the main importer of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides with $84.2 million, the largest supplier was China with 18.94%.

Costa Rica is positioned in the regional market as the largest buyer with $171.6 million, also, the United States remains the main supplier of plastic pipe with $109.2 million.

Last year, trade in paints and varnishes between Central American countries amounted to $123 million, which is 10% lower than in 2019, a drop that was reported in the context of the economic crisis resulting from the Covid-19 outbreak.

Last year, Central America assigned $784 million to fertilizer imports, 4% more than in 2019, with Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador being the markets that accounted for the increase in regional purchases.
