With four wind farms set up in the department of Rivas, the country is exploiting only 23% of a potential of 800 megawatts.
Although $417 million has already been invested in the construction of new wind farms in the country, there is still ample room to install more and take advantage of this kind of renewable energy generation.

The farms to be auctioned, property of the defunct Banco Corporativo SA, are located in Namasigue and Marcovia, Choluteca.
Included in the lot to be auctioned is a packing plant, located in San Lorenzo, Valle.
William Chong Wong, finance secretary, said he hopes the auction will be carried out early next year.
"In total it amounts to 919 hectares of farm land, and 29.82 hectares that make up the shrimp packing plant, which has a processing capacity of 80.000 pounds per day of this crustacean.
Banrural requested permission from the Florida Financial Regulation Office and the Federal Reserve to set up an office in Miami.

According to the lawyer, the Guatemalan bank has taken this step in order to provide direct services to Guatemalans residing in the US, including remittances, and the export and import business, now that Guatemala forms a part of CAFTA.
