AviancaTaca Holding SA, has signed a purchase agreement with the European manufacturing firm Airbus for 51 eco-efficient aircraft.
A press release from AviancaTaca states that the purchase order, is for 33 A320neo type aircraft and is the largest order of this model in Latin America.
The airlines announced the signing of the agreement which will contribute to increased flight options for passengers in the Southern Cone.
In the first quarter of next year, Sky Airlines will sign a similar agreement with the airline Avianca, indicated Fabio Villegas, CEO of Avianca, Taca, Stuart Ortiz, COO of Avianca-Taca and Jürgen Paulmann, CEO of Sky Airlines, in a press conference.
The Avianca-TACA holding company has opened a training center for pilots and cabin crew in El Salvador.
The facilities, which also provide training to administration and maintenance staff, are located at the international airport in El Salvador and have certifications from the Civil Aviation Authority of El Salvador, Costa Rica and Peru.
The group have announced the launch of a plan through which they will enhance and expand the processes related to imports and exports.
The company said in a press release:
“Avianca and Taca propose to consolidate their product portfolio and cargo services. The plan, implemented through its subsidiary, Tampa Cargo, includes a significant investment in dedicated aircraft to move goods and products, improving ground infrastructure and the incorporation of the latest booking technology and online tracking.
AviancaTaca Holding and its subsidiary in Ecuador, Galapagos Airlines have signed an agreement with Airbus to purchase 51 new aircraft from the A320 family.
This request includes a total of 33 A320 neo generation aircraft, characterized by the incorporation of eco-efficient technology and aerodynamic ‘Sharklet’ devices.
Being the sole operator of the Guatemala - Mexico route, TACA was able to charge more than $700 a ticket. Now that Aeromexico and Interjet have arrived, prices have fallen to less than half that price.
Last week the Mexican low-cost airline Interjet announced two daily flights between Guatemala City and Mexico City from July, with rates from $249 roundtrip including taxes.
AviancaTaca´s share issue exceeded $1.5 billion dollars, more than five times the initial offering of approximately $250 million dollars.
Yesterday, AviancaTaca´s share issue in the Colombian market ended with extreme success. Even with preliminary results, the requests for shares exceeded $1.5 billion dollars, more than 5 times the initial offering of approximately $250 million dollars.
The airline said that the issue is made up of 100 million shares at a price of $ 2.67.
The company launched in Colombia an IPO for $ 267.2 million. Deadline for placement of preferred shares is 15 days due on April 15.
The airline's chief executive, Fabio Villegas, said "The AviancaTaca Holding SA IPO is an important step in the history of the company, emphasizing the consolidation process of the two airlines, the business and financial success and the modernization and standardization of the fleet.
The airlines will unify their frequent flyer programs into a single program called “LifeMiles."
Fabio Villegas, president of the company, announced that effective March 1st, the Taca Distancia program and Avianca´s AviancaPlus, will be unified as LifeMiles.
Avianca - Taca acquired nearly 100% of the outstanding shares of AeroGal.
As a result of the transaction, the Ecuatorian airline gets to be part of integrated companies AVIANCA-TACA.
Following the acquisition, Avianca - Taca will work on strengthening AeroGal´s offer in South America, offering passengers travel within the region and connections to over 100 destinations in America and Europe, aboard more than 150 modern aircraft.
Latin American airlines Avianca, Taca and Copa joined the global Star Alliance network.
The goal of these two companies joining the alliance is to integrate the ''hubs'' of Avianca-Taca (San Salvador, Lima, San José and Bogotá) and Copa (Panama City).
Avianca-TACA will fly daily between Bogota and San Salvador, without stops, from 9 August.
Avianca will be the first company to operate direct flights beween the two countries and in doing so consolidates its network of routes in North and South America.
