$ 79 Million for Water Management in El Salvador

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) will develop two water management projects in 2011.

During the presentation of objectives for 2011, MARN detailed the creation of a "Water Fund" of $ 79 million, through an agreement with the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation (AECI) and the Technical Department of the Presidency of El Salvador .

Through the Spanish Cooperation and Spanish Water Fund three initiatives will be developed, two of which MARN will have direct participation. The first is the "Program Governance and Planning of Water Resources and Infrastructure for Water Supply and Sanitation in rural areas, with a total of $ 29.1 million. The second is the" Integrated Project Water and Sanitation and Environment ", with an amount of U.S. $ 50.1 million.

Additionally, the Ministry proposes to create a Dynamic Atlas for Water Hazards in 2011, installing remote stations to access the information online and in real time.

Guatemala Tenders Water and Sanitation projects

Within the framework of the project Water for All, the Guatemalan government will put out tender in August several drinking water and sanitation projects worth about $50 million.

$ 25 Million for Water Systems in Honduras

March 2011

The project provides strengthening for rural aqueducts, taking the service where there is currently no drinking water.

The project is being developed by the Water and Sewerage Service (SANAA) and the funds will come from the IDB and Spanish Cooperation.

As explained by Danilo Alvarado, manager of SANAA, the project would be approved by the board of the IDB in the short term, shortly after execution of the works can begin.
