World’s Second Largest Shipping Company Sets Up in El Salvador

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) expects to attract between 10% and 12% of the Salvadoran market in its first year of operation.

The company plans to move 50 to 60 thousand containers per year, focusing on routes to Asia, Mexico and South America.

MSC manager Jose Bodewing indicated in an Elsalvador.com article that around 20 to 25 thousand dollars are moved for each docking a ship makes, so the shipping business will generate over 120 indirect jobs because they hire transport, warehousing, port services and others."

At the international level, according to Bodewing, the shipping company picks up 12% of the global cargo.

Naviera Anave Will Operate From Honduras

The Spanish shipping company will include Port Cortés as one of its permanent destinations.

Representatives from the shipping company explained they will carry Honduran coffee to Europa and Asia.

Two New Pacific Shipping Services

MSC shipping announced 2 new services connecting North, Central and South America on the Pacific coast.

In a press release, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company said that the service called "Puma" will run between the US, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Panama.

Shanghai – Panama Transit Accelerated

Evergreen Line shipping company has announced a new transit time of 25 days for their Far East - Panama Service from Shanghai to Colón.

The company shortened the transit time between the Taiwan hub at Kaohsiung to Mexico from 23 to only 16 days, resulting in a transit time of 25 days for the route from Shanghai to the Caribbean hub in Puerto Colón, Panama.
