World Banana Summit in Davao

It will be held in the Philippines from the 5th to 6th of November and will focus on changes in production, export, marketing and consumption of bananas.

The first world banana summit will take place during the 12th Davao Trade Expo (DATE), addressing all issues of the industry, a major source of income, employment and exports to many countries.

Discussion on compared practices and evaluation of producers in the Philippines, Costa Rica, India, Ecuador, Malaysia and Indonesia, among others will take place. Representatives of banana companies from these countries are invited to share policies of commercial practices which have helped improve global competitiveness.

Dubai Could be a Banana Hub for the Middle East

Banana growers from Costa Rica are planning a distribution network in a region where banana consumption keeps on growing.

In the Middle East, demand for banana is on the rise. Annual banana imports have almost tripled in the last decade, growing by around 16 per cent a year between 2001 and 2007, from 257.000 tonnes to 737.000 tonnes, according to Corbana (Banana Corporation of Costa Rica) data.
