Regional Business on the Rise
Between January and June 2020 and the same period in 2021, the value of wood and wood products exported from Central America rose by 190.4%, from $101.9 million to $296 million.

For the second half of 2021, all countries increased their foreign sales year-on-year. Nicaragua increased its exports by 54.52%, Costa Rica by 42.8%, Guatemala by 53.97%, Honduras by 50.38%, Panama by 37.22% and El Salvador by 50.89%.

Costa Rica and Panama, Main Sellers
From January to June 2021, the main exporter was Costa Rica with $29.6 million, followed by Panama with $26.3 million, Guatemala with $23.6 million, Honduras with $17.3 million, Nicaragua with $4.3 million and El Salvador with $1.3 million.

Destination of Exports
In the first six months of 2021, 20.16% of the value exported from the region was destined for India, 6.17% for the U.S., 2.25% for China and 1.16% for Vietnam.

The United States of America is the destination country for Central American exports that has decreased the most for the period in question in recent years. In 2012 it represented 23.22% of the total value exported and in June 2021 it dropped to 6.17%.

This analysis was carried out considering raw wood, sawn, sawed, veneered, plywood, stratified, boards, firewood, barrels, crates, pallets, pallets for loading, sleepers and other similar items. Charcoal is not included in the report.
