Wind Projects in Guatemala

Of a potential of 1,000 MW of power generated through wind in the country, 101 MW will start to be generated from three wind projects which will start operations in May 2015.

The three projects referred to are those of the companies Viento Blanco which will generate 21 MW, Tresca, with 30MW, and the most advanced, Eólico San Antonio del Sitio, with 52.8 MW, which already has 90% of the necessary infrastructure for it to operate.

Evwind.com reports that "... In the case of Eólico San Antonio del Sitio it will provide power to Deocsa and Deorsa, both owned by Energuate. The contracted prices were $126 per megawatt ($ 0.12 per kilowatt). "

'... Consultants reported that this type of technology needs an investment of between $2.2 million and $2.5 million per megawatt installed. These type of projects which depend on climate can offer only energy and not power, because at some point in the year they stop generating. "

Panama: Wind Power Blows Strong

On January 1st, the Penonomé wind farm produced a fifth of all domestic electricity generation, or 5.1 GW/h.

According to the Electric Transmission Company, SA (Etesa), the Penonomé wind farm in the province of Cocle, broke the record for energy production on the first day of the year, after reaching an operating capacity of 197.5 megawatts (MW), 21.7% of the national requirement .

Wind Projects in Honduras Confirmed

The government has finalized three agreements for electricity generation in wind farms which will produce 94 megawatts of clean energy.

Guatemala: Wind Power Generators Interested In Energy Tender

Among the companies interested in bidding for the 800MW tender are three wind power generators.

Carlos Rodas, from Empresa Electrica de Guatemala, S. A. (EEGSA), noted that the companies Viento Blanco and Eólico San Antonio El Sitio have acquired the specification details and a third company is is also interested.

Licenses to Generate 336.8 MW of Wind Power

January 2010

Panama granted "Unión Eólica Panameña" licenses to install, operate and exploit 4 wind power farms.

The public services authority of Panama granted the company provisional licenses to install, operate and exploit the wind farms called Nuevo Chagres, Portobelo Ballestillas, Marañón and Rosa de los Vientos, capable of 42.5, 59.5, 850 and 194 MW, respectively.
