What is Being Built in Central America?

Apartment towers in Costa Rica and Panama, and oil well drilling and related works in Guatemala, are some of the construction projects planned for the coming months in the region.

CentralAmericaData's information system "Construction Projects in Central America", compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit,  provides an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact assessments (EIAs) were submitted to the respective institutions in each country in March 2017.

Details of some of the projects: 

In Costa Rica, La Reina del Café S.A. submitted an EIA to build, in the district of Ulloa, canton and province of Heredia, five apartment buildings with 10 floors each making a total of 600 apartments, with commercial spaces, parking, swimming pools, recreational areas and a waste water treatment plant. According to the document the project is called "La Reina" and the total investment amount is $80 million.

In Guatemala, Empresa Petrolera del Istmo S.A. submitted an EIA to drill 5 wells and construct related works such as road infrastructure, new tanks and expansion of a camp in the municipality of Chisec, department of Alta Verapaz. According to the study the project is called "Evaluation of the environmental impact of the drilling program for new wells and related works for the oil operations contract for the administration and execution of the agreements for conservation and efficient production in the Rubelsanto areas" and the global investment amount will be $54 million.

In PanamaSan Marino Eco Development S.A. submitted an EIA to build, in the district of Juan Díaz, district and province of Panama, 9 buildings with 12 levels each with a total of 342 apartments that will have swimming pools, gardens, sports courts, internal street system, parking area, systems for potable water, rainwater, gas, sanitation, electricity and a wastewater treatment plant. According to the document the project is called "San Bartolo" and the investment amount is $35 million.

CentralAmericaData provides information on projects planned in all Central American countries, with details such as estimated investment, project times and phases, materials and equipment that will be required during and after construction, water treatment, parking structure, among other things.
