For 2021, watermelon exports were unchanged significantly, during that year 140,093 metric tons were registered with a value of $52 million, mainly destined for the United States of America, reaching $23 million in purchases from the Central American region.

Exports by Country
By 2021, the leading exporter of watermelon in Central America was Costa Rica with $26 million, followed by Guatemala with $23 million, Honduras with $17 million, Panama with $14 million and Nicaragua with US$100 thousand.

Change in Regional Exports
Between 2020 and the same period of 2021, the value exported from Central America decreased imperceptibly by 1.31%, falling from $52.3 million to $51.6 million.

Destination of Exports
During 2021, 43.86% of the value exported from Central America was destined for the USA, 32.18% for the Netherlands, 15.15% for the United Kingdom and 2.87% for Belgium.

For the period in question over the last ten years, the U.S. was the export destination market that grew the most, given that in 2012 it represented 8.76% of total Central American sales and in 2021 that proportion reached 43.86%.

By the third quarter of 2021, gold exports in the Central American region increased by 387% reaching $310 million in sales, the main destination being the United States of America.
