Wal-Mart to Invest $29 Million in the Region

The supermarket chain is plannning to open 22 stores during 2009 in Central America, generating about 1,000 job openings.

The press release published by Siglo 21 on its website states: "In a year when the region's economic environment is showing itself to be extremely challenging, this level of growth and investment demonstrates the company's commitment to the welfare of Central American families, with a greater operating efficiency that will allow it to continue offering the lowest prices to its customers."

Walmart Opens New Store in Costa Rica

November 2011

With an investment of $9 million, the retail multinational has opened a new supermarket in its Mas x Menos brand.

Located in San Antonio de Belén, the new site has an area of 9677 square meters, and 199 parking spaces.

"This inauguration is part of Walmart's growth plans for 2011, which anticipate an eventual investment of $160 million", states an article on Elfinancierocr.com.

New Walmart Supermarket in Honduras

With an investment of $46 million, the retail multinational has opened its first ‘Maxi Despensa’ format supermarket in Honduras.

The supermarket, which is the 600th in Central America in this format, will offer low-cost products.

Alberto Ebrard, president and general manager of WM, said the opening of the new store will improve the quality of family life, directly and indirectly.

Walmart Opens New Store in Guatemala

September 2010

Located in Zone 17 of the capital, the chain has opened the Paiz Santa Amelia superstore, its 30th in the country.

The opening of the Wal-Mart store directly created 78 new jobs as well as 97 indirect positions.

"The 2,513 m2 facility features features parking at the front of the supermarket and sustainable energy characteristics through its balance of natural and LED lighting to illuminate the store," reports Sigloxxi.com.

Walmart Will Open 4 new Stores in Honduras

April 2010

As part of its expansion plan for 2010, the supermarket chain will open 4 new stores in the country.

Mey Hung, Corporate Affairs director for Walmart in Honduras, told newspaper El Heraldo that “our recent investment in Honduras signals that the Central American market is growing rapidly and provides interesting opportunities”.
