Regional Business Recovers

Between the third quarter of 2020 and 2021 the imported value of wines in Central America registered a 50% increase, going from $47 million to $71 million.

Until September 2021, Central American imports had their highest point in June of that year, reaching a value of $9.1 million, this after one of the most notorious drops in the month of February of the same year, which reached a value of $6.1 million.

Costa Rican Companies, Main Buyers

For the third quarter of 2021 the main importer in the region continued to be Costa Rica with $18 million, followed by Panama with $12 million, Guatemala with $8 million, El Salvador and Honduras with $ million and Nicaragua with $2 million.

The region's market for the period analyzed in 2021 recorded an increase in its purchases, as it reported a year-on-year variation in Guatemala of 89%, El Salvador and Honduras 62%, Panama 52%, Nicaragua 30% and Costa Rica 28%.

Chile, Main Supplier of the Region

By September 2021, 26% of the value imported from Central America came from Chile, 25% from Spain, 14% from Italy, 10% from the US, 8% from France and 7% from Argentina.

For the third quarter of the last few years, the Panama Free Trade Zone is the market of origin of purchases that has decreased the most, dropping from 22% in 2012 to 3% in 2021.

For the third quarter of 2021 imports of soaps and cleaning products in the Central American region increased by 45% reaching $128 million in purchases, the main supplier is Honduras with $79 million.

Beef: Sales in the Region Increase

April 2022

During the third quarter of 2021, an increase of 22 % was observed, reaching $640 million in exports of fresh, refrigerated and frozen beef, however, in volume it only represented a 2 percent increase, reaching 125,448 tons.
