Veto for Environmental Consultation Law in Costa Rica

The project allows for citizen consultations to be called for projects related to the environment and this caused protests from the business sector.

The municipality of Nueva Santa Rosa, in southeastern Guatemala, asked the inhabitants to decide on the installation, development and operation of chemical metal mining projects in their territory, in a consultation process which will be extended to other municipalities of Santa Rosa.

The project is conducted through the U.S. Department of State funded “Cleaner Production Private Sector Partnerships” project in Central America.
