Guatemala Leads Regional Sales
In the first six months of 2020 the main exporter in Central America was Guatemala, with $95 million, followed by Honduras, with $45 million, Costa Rica, with $17 million, Nicaragua with $7 million, El Salvador with $1.6 million and Panama with $1.5 million.

For the period in question, foreign sales of Guatemalan companies increased by 150%, Nicaragua by 23%, Honduras by 11%, Costa Rica by 1% and Panama by only 0.2%.
In the case of Salvadoran companies, their exports fell by 32%.

Exports up 59%
For the periods in question, the value exported also registered a positive variation, rising from $105 million to $168 million.

Between January and June 2019 and the same period in 2020, the volume exported of vegetables registered a rise of 23%, from 121 thousand tons to 148 thousand tons.

Price of Exports
Between June 2018 and June 2020, the average price per kilo of regional fresh and refrigerated vegetable exports rose by 49%, from US$0.73 to US$1.09 per kilo.

US Main Central American Market
In June 2020, the United States was the main buyer of vegetables from companies in the region, accounting for 74% of the total value exported from Central America, followed by the United Kingdom with 9%, the Netherlands with 5%, Canada with 2% and France with 2%.

In recent years, the United Kingdom has been the market that has increased the most in terms of exports, accounting for 4% in 2012 and 9% in 2020.

December 2019

From January to June 2019 Central American exports of vegetables totaled $105 million, 5% more than what was reported in the same period in 2018, a rise explained by the behavior of sales to companies in the United States.

Vegetables: Exports up 15%

June 2019

During the first nine months of 2018, regional vegetable exports totaled $132 million, 15% more than in the same period in 2017, an increase explained by the behavior of company sales in Guatemala and Honduras.
