Vaccines: Strong Rise in Regional Purchases

In the first quarter of 2019, purchases of vaccines for human use in Central America totaled $66 million, 347% more than was reported in the same period in 2018.

Panamanian Companies, Main Buyers
From January to March 2019, the main importer of vaccines for human use in Central America was Panama, with $48 million, followed by Honduras, with $7 million, El Salvador, with $5 million, Guatemala and Nicaragua, with $2.4 million each, and Costa Rica, with $0.5 million.

Regional Business Variation
Between the first quarter of 2018 and the same period in 2019, the value imported into the region grew considerably, from $15 million to $66 million.

For the periods concerned, purchases from U.S. companies increased from $0.3 million to $26.3 million.

U.S. Main Supplier 
Up to March of this year, 40% of the value imported into the region came from the USA, 20% from France, 19% from Belgium, 3% from India and 2% from South Korea.
