Urban Transportation Proposal Presented in Panama

Transportation workers presented an urban transportation modernization plan supported by the Blue Bird Corporation of the United States.

The project proposes the incorporation of buses into the automated card payment system. The Blue Bird Corporation would be the supplier and the Transtarjetas company from Panama would be responsible for producing the plastic cards, distributing them, and promoting their use.

Shelmar Vásquez writes in the Prensa web portal: "The director appointed by ATTT, Sandra Escorcia, has declared that, although the metro is the main project for the incoming administration, it is certain that they must evaluate how to improve the current transportation system until it becomes a reality. Thus, all the proposals that arrive at the table will be analyzed in order to find the most appropriate one..."

Nicaragua: Bus Contract Not Yet Awarded

Two companies presented offers for the supply of 350 buses to the capital's public transport system.

Managua's public transport regulator, Irtramma, stated that the winning company will be anounced next week. The two companies that submitted proposals were DINA Camiones, S.A. and Zapata Camiones, S.A..

Metro Bus Bidding Pushed Back in Panama

According to the new schedule, companies interested in developing and operating the new public bus transportation system called “Metro Bus” must submit their proposals on May 26.

The Executive Transport Commission changed the bidding rules to allow the participation of more companies, in response to a request from international consortiums interested in the project.

El Salvador Commences Bus Renovation Process

March 2010

Businessmen and Government authorities will travel to Brazil to negotiate the final details of the bus renovation program.

The Transportation vice Minister will travel with transport businessmen and other government authorities. The travel date will be announced next Monday.

Panama Launches "Metro Bus" System

November 2009

The first contract for "Metro Bus", a new transportation system, will be awarded on March 29th, 2010.

This project will renew the current bus fleet with air conditioned, high capacity vehicles, but will commence with existing 'Red Devil' buses ("Diablos Rojos").
