Tourism in Guatemala: Growth Projected in 2018

Authorities estimate that this year the number of visitors that will come to the country will be 2.2 million, 4% more than the flow of tourists registered last year.

Following an 11% tourist increase between 2016 and 2017, representatives from the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (Inguat) project that this year the number of visitors will reach 2 million 197 thousand, a figure that is 4% more than the 2 million 119 thousand reported last year.

Regarding the strategy implemented by tourism authorities, Jorge Mario Chajón, director of the Inguat, told Dca.gob.gt that " ...'In 2016 and 2017, the foundations were laid for implementing a competitive strategy with differentiated products, segments and specialized markets and positioning Guatemala as a unique cultural destination in a natural, mega-diverse environment.'" 

He said that "... this year, they will promote eight strategic areas to strengthen this activity, improve infrastructure, design new projects and provide greater security to visitors, with the support of the Ministry of the Interior.

The cumulative arrival of non-resident visitors by air in the January-October 2018 totaled 5,424,399 travelers, an increase of 317,247 additional tourists over the same period last year, equivalent to a 6.2% growth.

Panama: Fewer Tourists Spend More Money

May 2018

Between the first quarter of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the number of visitors that arrived in the country registered a slight decrease of 1.4%, but the overall expenditure made by them increased by 2.7%.

According to sector's figures, between the first quarter of 2017 and the same period of this year the number of tourists fell from 734,000 to 723,000, and the currencies received registered a slight increase, going from $302 million to $310 million.

Nicaragua: Tourism Up 10%

August 2014

In the first half of the year $218 million came into the country, 10.3% more than the $197.5 million generated in the same period in 2013.

Details from the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (Intur) show that "... Between January and June Nicaragua received 650,008 foreign visitors, representing a growth of 7.1% compared to the same period in 2013, when the country received 607.155 tourists. "
