Truck Tires: Purchases to China grow 11%

In the first six months of 2019, countries in the region imported $106 million in bus and truck tires, and purchases from companies in China grew 11% over the same period in 2018.

Guatemala and Costa Rica, Main Importers
From January to June 2019, the main importer of bus and truck tires in Central America was Guatemala with $34 million, followed by Costa Rica with $19 million, Honduras with $18 million, Nicaragua with $15 million, El Salvador with $11 million and Panama with $9 million.

Slight Increase in Regional Imports
Between the first six months of 2018 and the same period in 2019 the value imported into the region recorded a 3% increase, from $103 million to $106 million.

For the periods in question, purchases from China also registered an increase, in this case was 11%, from $62 million to $68 million.

Chinese Companies, Main Suppliers
As of June 2019, 65% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 5% from Japan, 5% from Brazil, 5% from Thailand and 3% from the USA.

China is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most for the period in question over the last eight years, since in 2012 represented 41% of regional purchases and in 2019 that proportion rose to 65%.

Central America: Truck Tire Purchases Up 3%

July 2018

Last year, countries in the region imported $224 million worth of bus and truck tires, registering an increase of 3% compared to the figures in 2016.

In the first nine months of 2017, Central American companies imported $167 million worth of tires for trucks and buses, 4% more than in the same period in 2016.
