Truck Tires: More Business with China

In the first three months of 2019, countries in the region imported $518 million in tires for buses and trucks, and purchases from companies in China grew 7% over the same period in 2018.

Guatemala and Honduras, main importers
From January to March 2019, the main importer of tires for buses and trucks in Central America was Guatemala, with $15 million, followed by Honduras and Costa Rica, with $9 million each, Nicaragua with $8 million, El Salvador with $5 million and Panama, with $4 million.

Slight Increase in Regional Imports
Between the first three months of 2018 and the same period in 2019, the value imported into the region increased slightly by 0.8%, from $50 million to $51 million.

For the periods concerned, purchases from China also registered an increase, in this case was 7%, going from $30 million to $33 million.

Chinese Companies, Main Suppliers
Up to March 2019, 64% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 5% from Japan, 5% from Brazil, 4% from Mexico and 4% from Thailand.

China is the fastest-growing origin market for imports for the period in question over the past eight years, accounting for 39 per cent of regional purchases in 2012 and 64 per cent in 2019.

Central America: Truck Tire Purchases Up 3%

Last year, countries in the region imported $224 million worth of bus and truck tires, registering an increase of 3% compared to the figures in 2016.
