Trends and Challenges in Nutrition

The Costa Rican Chamber of Food Industry is organizing the XII Congress on Health and Nutrition: Trends and Challenges, in the Hotel Ramada Herradura, June 12, 2012.

Thursday, June 7, 2012

The food industry will propose solutions to excess weight and obesity in Costa Rica.

During the past 30 years the world has undergone changes that have caused a substantial change in lifestyles, and Costa Rica is no exception to this: According INCIENSA (2003), 40% of children are sedentary at home and overall, so is 50.1% of the population, according to the National Survey on Cardiovascular Risk Factors in the CCSS.

Given this scenario, the Costa Rican food industry is promoting a policy of intervention, with significant emphasis on family education. Promotion of human movement and the fight against physical inactivity, and education about healthy eating habits, are the pillars which underpin the strategy, where the participation of all stakeholders is fundamental: the health sector, education, academic community, professionals and of course the food and beverage industry.

It is for this reason that the Costa Rican Chamber of Food Industry is organizing the XII Congress on Health and Nutrition: Trends and Challenges. Date: Tuesday June 12, 2012Time: 8 AM to 8 PM Location: Convention Center Hotel Ramada Herradura
