Travel: More Restrictions in the Region

Due to the alert that health authorities have issued for the appearance of a new SARS-CoV-2 strain and in line with the decision made by El Salvador, the governments of Panama and Guatemala will also ban the entry of people from the United Kingdom and South Africa.

Due to the new variant of Covid-19, the National Operation Center decided to temporarily suspend as of 11:59 p.m. on December 21 the entry into the country of those who have stayed or transited through the United Kingdom and the Republic of South Africa in the last 20 days, informed the Presidency of Panama.

Meanwhile, Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei, through a national network broadcast on the night of December 21, explained that passengers from the United Kingdom, South Africa, and other countries that have registered cases of a second strain of coronavirus that is considered more lethal, will be restricted from entering the country.

In Guatemala the measure would last two months, however, the restriction will be reviewed periodically.

In the case of El Salvador, the ban has been in place since December 20.

Flights between Panama and Venezuela Suspended

After the South American country decided to suspend flights to and from Venezuela by Copa Airlines, the Civil Aeronautical Authority of Panama cancelled flights from Venezuela.

Costa Rica will Receive Central American Flights

In the context of the economic reopening, it was announced that as of October 15, Costa Rican air terminals will begin to receive flights carrying citizens from Central America and Panama.

Due to the covid-19 outbreak, air transport between Costa Rica and the other countries in the region has been interrupted since March.

Commercial Flights: Suspension Continues in Panama

Based on public health reasons, the Civil Aeronautical Authority decided to suspend until September 21st the international flights of Commercial Passengers Aviation and General Passengers Aviation.

Due to the propagation of covid-19, Panamanian authorities decided to prohibit since March 22nd of this year, the operation of commercial flights. Since the measure became effective, the restriction has been extended on multiple occasions.
