Tractors in Central America: Market Up 13%

Last year countries in the region imported $187 million worth of tractors, 13% more than what was reported in 2016, and 56% was purchased by companies in Costa Rica and Guatemala.

Imports by country 
In 2017, the main purchaser of tractors in Central America was Costa Rica, with $61 million, followed by Guatemala, with $45 million, Nicaragua, with $22 million, Honduras and Panama, with $21 million each, and El Salvador, with $16 million.

Variation of regional imports 
Between 2016 and 2017, the import value of tractors and their parts in Central America increased by 13%, rising from $165 million in 2016 to $187 million in 2017. 

The increase recorded in 2017 represents a recovery in imports, as between 2015 and 2016 regional purchases abroad reported a 1% decrease, falling from $167 million to $165 million.

Origin of imports 
In 2017, 38% of the value imported from Central America came from the USA, 18% from China, 17% from Mexico and 10% from Brazil.

The United States is the market of origin of imports that has reduced the most in the last six years. In 2012, it represented 49% of the region's total imports, while last year this proportion was only 38%.
