Imports by Country
From January to June 2021 the main buyer of tractors in Central America was Guatemala with $11 million, followed by Costa Rica and Panama with $8 million, in Honduras with $5 million, El Salvador with $4 million and Nicaragua with $2 million.

For the semester in question, Panama was the only country in the region that reported a decrease in its foreign purchases, registering a year-on-year variation of 10%.

U.S., Main Seller
From January to June 2021, 51% of the value imported from Central America came from the USA, 24% from Mexico, 8% from Brazil, 3% from India, Italy and Canada.

In terms of imported value, tractors from Italy have lost share in regional purchases, because during the second half of 2012 they accounted for 6% of the total traded and since then they have been on the decline, during the period of 2021 the proportion fell to 3%.

Variation of Regional Imports
For the second quarter of 2021 and the same period of 2020 the value imported in the region increased 114%, going from $39 million to $84 million.

For the periods in question, purchases from the U.S. increased from $19 million to $43 million, and business with companies in Mexico increased from $8 million to $21 million.

In the second quarter of 2021 there was a recovery in the furniture sector, reaching $183 million in purchases equivalent to a 46% growth, the main supplier to Central America was China with 28% in sales.

Coffee: Honduras Leads in Exports

For the second quarter of 2021, Honduras was the main seller of coffee in the Central American region with $723 million, equivalent to 35% of exports.
