Tractors: Mexico Purchases Up 24%

In the first quarter of the year, Central American countries bought $39 million worth of tractors, and imports from Mexico grew by 24% compared to the same period in 2017.

Imports by country 
During the first three months of 2018 the main buyer of tractors in Central America was Costa Rica, with $10 million worth, followed by Guatemala, with $8 million, Panama, with $7 million, Nicaragua, with $6million, Honduras, with $5 million and El Salvador, with $4 million.

Origin of imports 
From January to March of this year, 39% of the value imported from Central America came from the USA, 24% from Mexico, 13% from Brazil and 6% from the Netherlands. 

The US is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most in the first quarter of the last seven years. In 2012 it represented 49% of the region's total imports, while this year the proportion was 39%. 

Variation of regional imports 
Between the first quarter of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the value imported into the region decreased by 25%, falling from $52 million to $39 million.

Contrary to the general behavior of regional imports, for the periods in question, Central American purchases from Mexico grew by 24%, rising from $7.5 million to $9.3 million.

Tractors in Central America: Market Up 13%

June 2018

Last year countries in the region imported $187 million worth of tractors, 13% more than what was reported in 2016, and 56% was purchased by companies in Costa Rica and Guatemala.
