Tourist arrivals Stalled

Up to July, a 13% increase was reported in the number of tourists who arrived in Guatemala, but upon incorporating the August figures, the accumulated variation in the year was -0.4% with respect to the same period in 2017.

Wednesday, October 31, 2018

The Guatemalan Institute of Tourism reported that during August a total of 220,844 visitors entered the country, of which 76% were tourists and 24% were hikers.

Two out of every three visitors (67%) are from Central America, especially El Salvador, the country that represents the largest number of tourists that Guatemala receives, as it had a participation of 52%, considering the high influx caused by the celebration of the Agostino festivities. It is followed by the United States (16%) and Honduras (6%).

In August 2018, land borders meant the largest flow of inbound tourism, since of every ten visitors, seven (71%) did so through this route. By air represented 29%.
