Tourism Grows in Panama

The influx of tourists in the first two months of the year increased by 5.7% with the entry of 429,073 visitors.

The Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) reported that in early 2012, some 429,073 visitors entered the country, 23,145 more people than in the same period last year, which is a growth of 5.7%.

Tourists coming to the country spent $380 million, 52 million more than last year.

"Tocumen International Airport remains the main gateway for tourism. 265.999 people came in through the air terminal in these two months with a growth of 18.9%," reports Laestrella.com.pa. "This made the end result of the statistics positive, although movements by cruise passengers was negative, by 14.3% and Paso Canoas only reported an increase of 0.1%."

According to the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (Intur), during the same period, the amount of foreign exchange recorded increased by 1.4%, with $784 million coming in.

Increased Tourist Arrivals in Nicaragua

Information from the Nicaraguan Tourism Institute, INTUR reveals that 694,906 tourists came into the country up to July, representing an increase of 11.5% compared to the same period in 2011.

Data from the Nicaraguan Tourism Institute, INTUR reveals that up to July of this year 694,906 tourists came to Nicaragua, representing an increase of 11.5 percent compared to the same period last year, said the executive vice president of the governing institution of Tourism in Nicaragua, Mayra Salinas.

Tourist Spending in Panama Increases

November 2011

In the first nine months of the year an increase of 13.9% was reported in daily spending compared to the same period in 2010.

During the aforementioned period, spending by visitors amounted to $1,397 million, $170 million more than in 2010.

"Although projections by the Panama Tourism Authority indicate that in 2011 the country will surpass the barrier of two million tourists, some business connected with the activity believe that this figure will not be reached.

Tourist arrivals in Panama grow 14.2%

December 2008

The number of tourist arrivals from January to October 2008 grew to 1.23 million, 153 thousand more than for the same period last year.

Just in October alone, 25 thousand tourists more than last year entered the country; this is a growth of 25.4%. The best growth was for maritime tourist arrivals according to preliminary data, coinciding with the start of the new cruise ship season, which improved by 83.5% compared to last year.
