According to the latest estimates, this year about 508,000 Mexicans would be considering vacationing in Costa Rica.

Half a million Mexicans have in mind to visit someday Costa Rica, according to estimates of 2019 that has the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism (ICT) in the study of Best Prospects.
According to ICT forecasts, in 2016 there were 450 thousand better prospects, which means a 50 thousand increase of Mexicans interested in coming to Costa Rica.
"These data are good news for the country, so this year we will be intensifying promotional efforts, in conjunction with the ICT in the main cities of that country: Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. Only last year, 98,918 Mexicans visited our country, most of them from these cities. Pro Imagen Association chose them because they are the largest travelers' stations in Mexico, they have excellent air connections and because their inhabitants have shown great interest in knowing Costa Rica," said Silvia Vargas, president of the Pro Imagen Group Association.
Although between 2017 and 2018 the average spending of tourists in Costa Rica fell 14%, businessmen estimate that the country has the capacity to absorb more demand.
Figures from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) specify that in the last two years the average expenditure made by tourists who arrive in the country decreased by $226, going from $1,561 in 2017 to $1,335 in 2018, and the stay per person remains around 12 nights.
This year Costa Rica will focus on consolidating itself as a global destination, of a potential market of approximately 9 million tourists.
Global promotion to position Costa Rica as a destination will begin in 2018. According to data from the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism (ICT), the average tourist who visits the country spends 18 nights and spends $3,200, and in addition, prefers small lodgings, local food and crafts.
The average european tourist plans trips less than a year in advance and searches and books tour packages via the internet, without using intermediaries.
