Tourism: $350 Million Investment Announced

Mariott International, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels and Ritz-Carlton Reserve, presented to Dominican Republic authorities their plans to develop luxury tourism projects in Puerto Plata.

From the statement of the Presidency of the Dominican Republic:

December 11th, 2018. A group of foreign investors met today with President Danilo Medina and expressed their interest in transforming the country's northern coast into a luxury tourism destination.

During the meeting with the President of the Republic, which took place in the Private Hall of the National Palace, executives from Mariott International, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels and Ritz-Carlton Reserve presented the project whose investment will exceed $350 million dollars and will create more than 2,000 direct jobs.

Marriot International and the real estate developers of The Ocean Club Group work together to establish a new standard of tourism in the Dominican Republic.

Orlando Martinez of the National Palace, after the meeting with Danilo Medina, Ian Schembri-Sant, CEO of The Ocean Club and one of the developers of the large project, said that the aim is to establish the north coast of the island as one of the main destinations for luxury tourism.

He informed that, in partnership with the Marriot brand, three luxury hotels will be built.

New Ritz-Carlton Hotel Reserve in Panama

The Ritz-Carlton has announced that in 2016 it will open a new hotel in Pearl Island, south of Panama City.

The new facility will have 80 rooms, a spa, private beach club, three swimming pools and three restaurants. In addition, visitors will have access to a 1,800 square pavilion and function room with sea view.

Marriot to invest $40 million in Panama

The international hotel chain Marriott is expanding into Panama, and will spend 40 million dollars on a 300-room hotel in Panama City.

Edward Fuller, president and executive director of the region for Mariott International, said the project will be part of their luxury brand Renaissance.
