By 2021, toilet paper imports increased slightly by 6% to reach $280 million, with Costa Rica being the main importer in the Central American region with $69 million, the main supplier to Central America was El Salvador with $170 million.

Regional Purchases on the Rise
Between 2020 and 2021 the imported value of toilet paper in Central America registered a moderate rise of 6.25%, growing from $263.7 million to $280.2 million.

Costa Rican and Honduran companies, main importers
In 2021 the main buyer was Costa Rica with $69 million, followed by Honduras with $66.2 million, Nicaragua with $48.2 million, Guatemala with $47.9 million, Panama with $26.1 million and El Salvador with $22.9 million.

Main Suppliers
Last year, 60.54% of the value of imports in the region came from El Salvador, Guatemala with 27.79%, 5.53% from Mexico, 1.33% from the U.S., 1.20% from China and 1% from Colombia.

Mexico is the market of origin of imports that has decreased the most in the last ten years, since in 2012 it represented 28% of Central America's total purchases and in 2021 that proportion fell to 5.53%.

For 2021, there was a 74% increase equivalent to $548 million for a volume of 1,028,504 tons of ceramic products, with Guatemala being the largest importer with $83 million, the main supplier to the Central American region was Spain with 19% of purchases with $105 million.

Truck Tires: China is the Main supplier

July 2022

For 2021, the value of imports of tires for use in buses and trucks in Central America is observed for $299 million, which is an increase in the variation of almost 40% from the period analyzed from 2012 to 2020, in addition, the main supplier of this product is China, which has led in the region.

For the third quarter of 2021 a slow recovery of the automotive sector is seen, reaching purchases in the Central American region for $451 million, with China being the main supplier, with 27% of the market.
