Tocumen Airport Could Raise Rates

Authorities at the International Airport in Panama are evaluating raising tariffs for services offered at the terminal in order to cover the cost of the current expansion and future projects.

Thursday, February 12, 2015

Between 2009 and 2012 there were only two upward adjustments in rates for airport services, one on the departure tax, and another on charge paid by airlines for each per passenger.

Joseph Fidanque III, manager of Tocumen SA, told Prensa.com that "... There is a need to set some aeronautical fees in order to cover the cost of the current expansion, and future projects to be undertaken in Tocumen. We are carrying out the analysis, but the increases will be in accordance with the service offered by the airport. "

"... The airline industry went from contributing 2% of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2006 to representing 12.6% in 2013. "
