Thursday, February 18, 2021

According to the opening minutes published in Guatecompras.gob.gt on February 17, 2021, the proposal submitted by Construcciones Integrales Avanzadas S.A. amounts to $61.9 million, that of Supervisión Construcción y Mantenimiento S.A. to $61.7 million and that of Tecuntrac S.A. to $59.5 million.

The tendered works consist mainly of dredging and repair of existing structures, that is, in different locations, depths and with different volumes.

According to the preliminary studies, the following improvements to the structures are to be made:

 - Repair of slope on the dock side of the west main breakwater. - Address unstable blocks on the west breakwater crest.
- Optimization of the breakwater in excess of the North Breakwater.
- Rehabilitation of the gabion structure and steel sheet pile arches of the North Breakwater.
- Rehabilitation of the coastal revetment to the immediate east of Puerto Quetzal.
- Elimination of the first five (5) breakwaters in west-east direction located to the immediate east of Puerto Quetzal and repair of the major breakwater number six (6).
- Completion of the west breakwater of San Marino according to its original design.

The aforementioned improvement repairs are considered necessary to guarantee an extension of the life span, assuming the most accurate predictions of erosion, sea level rise, a 100-year statistical design return period and the best application of coastal and maritime engineering.
