There is strength in union

An analysis of the Forum on the Future of Democracy in Central America organized by the Kellogg Institute from the University of Notre Dame.

Panelists included the ex-president of Honduras, Ricardo Maduro, Nicaraguan Ambassador to the US, Arturo Cruz, ex-presidential candidate in Costa Rica, Otton Solis. Luis Cosenza moderated the forum. He was Maduro's right hand man during his administration.
They covered several important topics such as organized crime in the region, the post-electoral conflict in Nicaragua, the end of the neoliberal model, the unhappiness of citizens with democratic institutions (Congress, the legal system, political parties). However, I would like to reflect on the question that I asked the panelists. Its seems to me that the challenges in the region, especially the war on drugs and the global economic crisis, requires a joint strategy. So I decided to question the possibility of a political and economic union. There are probably now more incentives to head in this direction.
