The Foreign Trade Promotion Office of Costa Rica has presented its report on the work of 2012, in a document entitled Institutional Report 2012.

From a letter from the CEO introducing the report:

The 2012 was an important year for Costa Rican foreign trade. The sustained growth of exports remained its rhythm and reached a rate of 8.9% in real terms, being U.S. $11.298 billion

For this year, 2504 direct exporters managed to place 4562 of their products in 147 countries.

Similarly, exports of services totaled U.S. $4.248 billion as of September 2012, which is an 11.8% increase compared with the same month in 2011.

The sum of the international business represents spoliation of U.S. $16.875 billion, which represents a historical record for the national economy and is more than the export targets, being 107% of what was proposed for this year.

Foreign sales of goods and services in 2012 were at record levels, increasing by 8.9% compared with 2011.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Trade reads:

San Jose, January 21, 2013. Costa Rica exported $16.875 billion in goods and services in 2012, exceeding the target set for the period of $15.750 billion.

Two months before the end of 2012, exports of goods continued their positive momentum and amounted to $9.42 billion, surpassing the $678 million reported in the same period last year.

Costa Rica: Exports Continue to Grow

September 2012

Costa Rican exports of goods totaled $7.657 billion in the first eight months of the year, representing a 9.9% increase, or $687 million, compared to the same period in 2011.
