Gonzalo Delgado decided to resign the presidency of the UCCAEP, after several days charged with much controversy and divisions within the largest business union Costa Rica.

The situation at the top was worsening, as weeks before the chambers of commerce and industry, and the banana growers' guild had already left the organization, and also on November 4 the Costa Rican Chamber of Construction (CCC) threatened to leave if Delgado did not resign the presidency.

From the UCCAEP statement:

November 6, 2019.  Mr. Gonzalo Delgado resigned his position as president of the Union of Chambers (UCCAEP) on Wednesday in order to strengthen the unity of the business sector.

At the initiative of Mr. Delgado, an extensive meeting of the Board of Directors analyzed the situation that has been living UCCAEP, and took the decision to make his position available for the welfare of the sector.

In accordance with the statutes, Mr. Álvaro Sáenz assumes the interim presidency.

With the election of Alvaro Saenz Saborío as the new president of UCCAEP, the Chamber of Industries and the Chamber of Banana Growers decided to return to the largest business association in Costa Rica.

The board of directors of the Costa Rican Chamber of Construction (CCC) requested by means of a letter, which was sent on November 4, the immediate resignation of Gonzalo Delgado, president of the Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Business Sector (UCCAEP).

Controversy in the Business Union Continues

In accordance with the decision taken by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the banana growers' union in Costa Rica decided to leave UCCAEP, after having been affiliated for more than 30 years.

Last week, when it was reported that the trade and industry guilds had left, the Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Business Sector (UCCAEP) called on them to reconsider their positions, but so far there is no sign of an improvement in relations.
