Prensa.com reports that "until the end of last year there were 6.7 million subscribers to mobile phones, representing an increase of 123.3% compared to 2007 when there were 3 million active lines".

Regarding the payment, Panamanians mostly prefer the prepaid system, 93% of users use this format, while others maintain an annual contract with either company.

Data from the Asociación Panameña de Crédito (CPA) indicates that last year alone there were 425.60 cell phone contracts, which represented an expense of $35.6 million, a trend that continues in 2013, because during the first three months 10,257 additional cell phone contracts were signed , making the total number of active contracts 435 317, with a bill of $36.3 million.

As of 30 June, the total number of lines stood at 18,528,667, an increase of 5.7% compared to the same period in 2010, according to preliminary information from the Superintendency of Telecommunications (SIT).
